For the 2025-2026 academic year, TIDE classes will examine the impact of conflict on youth. This summer, all TIDE students will do summer reading selections from “A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. While reading the selected chapters, students are encouraged to think about the impact of war and trauma on personal identity and memory, which are central themes, as well as the loss of innocence and the overall impact on war-torn societies.
The summer reading assignments for all students and for each grade level can be found HERE and are also linked in this presentation.
Below are examples that portray our students' takeaway from the reading.
